RTI Herbert Lab Renovation – RTP, NC

NEMA Management was selected by RTI International (RTI) to oversee the consolidation and optimization of lab space for the Discovery Sciences and Technology business unit within RTI. The project consisted of a phased renovation of 5,400sf which supports two separate labs. These labs include Engineered Materials, Devices, and Systems (EMDS) as well as the Global Health Technologies (GHT). One of the goals of the project was to create a space to showcase RTI research labs to prospective clients and visitors. The project took place within an occupied laboratory building and required careful coordination of the work. This included hours of pre-planning and working off hours for shutdowns to tie-in new mechanical and electrical equipment. The renovations included installation of a new single pass 20,000cfm air handler, fume hoods, snorkel exhaust, laboratory casework which can be reconfigured, lab supply air valves, lab exhaust air valves, new BAS controls, LED lighting and lighting controls, new windows from the hallways into the lab, as well as all new finishes.  The project also included commissioning of the HVAC systems.
